The Grammy Predictions...

Ok, I'm babysitting right now. But i figure I can dish about the big awards for the Grammys.

Record of the Year - It's a good group, but I want Green Day "American Idiot" to win. The mighty Usher is also up for the award with "Yeah", so you never know. Usher will probably win.

Album of the Year - Usher, Alicia Keys and Kanye West are all pitted against each other. Green Day has a good shot, but I would guess a hip-hop artist will win. It should be Kanye West, but Alicia and Usher had huge years.

Song of the Year - Some heavy competition from Tim McGraw and Alicia Keys, but Kanye will win this one without a doubt. Excellent vocals and meaningful lyrics in a signature beat. Nothing gets any better.

Best New Artist - Kanye West again. I love Maroon 5 and they also had a big year. But it's Kanye's night.

Best Female Pop Vocal - Joss and Gwen are up against Grammy queens such as Norah and Sheryl Crow. It's a toughie, but I say it's a tie between Norah and Joss. Most likely Sheryl will walk away with it.

Best Male Pop Vocal - John Mayer had a big hit with "Daughters" and he's a Grammy darling, but I'm hoping either Seal or Prince get the win this year.

Best Pop by Duo or Group with Vocal - Good songs all across the board. No real favorite in my eyes, but if I were a betting woman I'd put money on No Doubt to win. Excellent cover, true No Doubt sound.

Best Pop Vocal Album - Big category. Ray Charles, Norah Jones, Brian Wilson - just to name a few. I hope to all hopes that Brian Wilson wins just because he deserves something like this. But Ray will probably win with all the Oscar hype about the movie going on at the same time.

Best Rock by Duo or Group with Vocal - Another big category. U2, Franz, Killers, Green Day - all up against Mr. Elvis Costello. Could go one of two ways: Elvis wins because he's Elvis or U2 wins because of their "comeback" album success. Big gesture to nominate Franz and Killers, so they should be ecstatic with that.

I'm starting to feel bad for Green Day, who also deserve all the Grammy's they can get, but probably won't win any. :(

Best Hard Rock - Incubus had a nice rock song with "megalomaniac", but the win will undoubtedly go to Velvet Revolver. We haven't heard hooks and mean, lean guitars like that in a long while. More power to 'em.

Best Rock Song - Green Day against Modest Mouse. Green Day kicks ass. That's all there is to it. U2 will probably win - which they don't deserve this year. And I will once again roll my eyes at tradition.

Best Rock Album - Green Day should prevail. They've marketed it as a rock opera of sorts and it does sound that way to me. Yeah Bay Area artists!

Best Alternative Music Album - Modest Mouse versus Franz, one would think. But Wilco might take home a trophy. And they do deserve it for their album "A Ghost is Born".

Best Female RandB - Alicia Keys. Please, who else was going to win with a performance like hers?

Best Male RandB - Usher. Duh. But I will say that if R.Kelly wins, I won't be paying attention to the Grammy's for a very, very long time.

Best RandB by Duo or Group - Usher and Alicia Keys with "my Boo". Unbearably catching song that will get stuck in your head for days on end. But it'll win a Grammy.

Best RandB Song - Prince has a shot here... Ok, didn't mean that. So, if I have to pick between all the crap of Usher and Alicia - I choose.... wait, I'm thinking.... still thinking...

Best RandB Album - Actually, Prince does have a shot here, even up against other big names like Alicia and Al Green. But don't be surprised if any one of these nominees walks home with a statue.

Best Contemporary RandB Album - Ok, this is a category set up just so Usher can win without denying Alicia her best album Grammy.
