Denmark. A flat land, made up of many islands and happy people. Also, the cheapest alcohol in Scandinavia. It is concerning this last fact that I will write about.
Let's put this into perspective. Alcohol in Denmark isn't just cheap, it's ridiculously cheap! A beer in Norway is around 55kr. And it can be up to 70kr at the high end places. Sweden and Finland, not as bad as Norway, but definitely around 40kr for a beer. Going out to a bar in Denmark, you might expect to find a beer for about 20kr. But I didn't go out to a bar while I was in Denmark. The YFU house we stayed in had its own bar. This makes the alcohol even cheaper. We bought cards for 70kr... ok... which provided us with ten drinks! This makes each drink 7kr. Again, some perspective. That's ONE AMERICAN DOLLAR! Where on this earth do you find beer for one buck?! Please tell me because I'd like to know!
And! It's good beer too! Not some weak 3% shit! We're talking 8-9% alcohol in one beer! So, again, please tell me where I can get a strong pilsner for one measly dollar.... I ask because I'm going to live in the place where I can buy good beer for a buck. Wouldn't you? Seriously. If a beer is a buck, how much would a tequila shot cost? At this bar in Denmark, the same. But if it were the real world, probably two bucks.... Two dollars for a tequila shot!
Let's just say I got utterly drunk and disorderly on Friday night. Saturday night I behaved because I was so miserably tired.... But still drank to my heart's content! I was the sole American, I had to represent! And I did... quite well... until I couldn't go any further... And then the Danes kept going... Oh well.
But it was definitely a fun weekend. Also, very enlightening with all the workshops and discussion groups we had. It was a good networking weekend as well, getting to know all the countries involved. I had a moment where I wasn't happy and felt a little unrespected, but it was all forgotten by the end of the day. All in all, a very good experience!
And! I'm going back in the summer for the Rothschilde music festival. It's the end of June and it's a whole week of bands and artists. I'll provide the whole list of people and I'm sure Em will be super jealous of me! Fun! But seriously, I'll do that and then travel south to visit Kirstin in Flensburg and (maybe) Michelle in Bonn. Probably not going to get to Berlin. Sorry Eva. :(
But now it's another full week at work! Joyful rapture inside my heart!
