This is what happened to Emily this weekend... The original name of this being awesome drinking skills succeeded by pukage and a hangover.
We went up to the city Sat. afternoon to go to SFMOMA because college students got in for free. This was nice because not only should I not be spending money on things I generally wouldn't do anyway, but because it's not a very large museum, so whatever the actual admission is, is probably too much anyway. The photography collections were shown off nicely, with some interesting history of developing (i.e daguerreotype, tin printing, silver siding, etc.). But the top floor had a Richard Tuttle exhibit. It was pretty cool. I think he's post-structuralist. Various wire sculptures of only a foot length, watercolors of child-like objects, that sort of thing. The sort of thing where the artist will draw or paint something simple everyday and see what comes out of him, without thinking too much. Definitely my kind of art.
Then we called Kim and asked if she wanted to do dinner and drinks, which was a yes and Devon came too (boyfriend). So, we meet up (after I spent my ever-depleting cashflow at Old Navy for a cute medium-sized bag and an eight-dollar sweater) and go to Lori's Diner. It's a fifties-style diner, so I knew we would be eating snadwiches or burgers and so on. I had a milkshake, so did Em. The fries were yummy, but my BLT was kinda difficult to digest.
Then we walked over the hill to Columbus and Broadway to The Crowbar. Very cool pool joint with great booze. Luckily, I had gotten $60 out of the ATM before driving up to the city. This means I spent almost all of it. Maybe twelve dollars left over. But the Long Islands were $9! Ok, it is four shots of alcohol, but man! No worries, I only had one. So did Em, so did Kim. Devon had like four beers, didn't even break a sweat. Stupid neuroscience man! Good thing I don't do this often, or I'd be broke. We laughed, talked and laughed some more. Em and I were getting pretty juiced and we drove up to the city, which meant we might not make it back home. Well, we didn't. Devon was kind enough to let us crash at his place. And now that Em and I are moving, I'm sure we'll return the favor in the future.
I slept like the dead, although I did move from the deflating air mattress to the armchair with footstool. Em slept on the couch. Unbeknownst to me, Em had to get up in the middle of the night and use the bathroom. Poor Devon's roommate opened his bedroom door and saw her feet or legs sticking out into the hallway and thought better, going back into his room. Or maybe he didn't see her legs sticking out, maybe he just heard the wretching noises.
Either way, we woke up around nine. A feat unto itself! Kim had gone out for bagels, cream cheese and OJ - for which I adore her. I was starving! She had to leave to do work stuff, so Em and I left soon after Kim. We bussed it back to the car (on the other side of the city) and drove home. Took shower. Into pajamas. Then Mom came home after church and reminded us that today was the day we were going into the city to sign the lease on the new digs and get keys too! So, we went there too and measured the rooms, etc. I was never so tired. We got back and my reading assignment was Kafka. Right... I'm gonna read Kafka with a body that can't pick itself up to pee.... Sure...
All in all, however, it was good times. Kim and Devon are kick-ass and totally cool for letting us crash on our first outting together. I think that's kinda rude, but we did keep warning them that it might happen and they suggested it. So, we picked the right people to get drunk with. I consider that an accomplishment. :)
It could have been a bigger party, but Theo was in the East Bay with his fam and David didn't answer his phone. But it's cool because he did have dinner with his parents that night and had gotten drunk with his roommies on Friday, so...
And as my last thoughts:
Happy congratulations to the following people -
