I'll just give you a run-down on why I love the Grammy's. (Hey - it is Valentine's Day!)
All the performances kicked ass. Melissa Etheridge was a goddess on stage and has some giant balls for coming out in public like she did. Green Day was incredible and irreverant, as always. Alicia Keys sang her itty bitty heart out to the point where you thought she might cry from her passion. And Mr. Jamie Foxx wasn't too shabby either.
Nearly everyone who deserved a Grammy, got one. John Mayer, Kanye West, Maroon 5, Green Day, Ray Charles, Alicia Keys, Usher, Tim McGraw, Jay-Z, Norah Jones, Black Eyed Peas, ZACH BRAFF!!!
The show was full of energy and it seemed as though I wasn't watching an awards show, but rather a night of celebration and song. And that's what it should be. The Oscar never impress me because of all the egos that sit together in the audience and kiss each other's asses. The Grammy's in past years have reminded me of that. But not last night. It was really about the music. It was truly about the songs and what they mean to people around the world.
Last, but not least, I love that no one wore anything disturbing. No boobies hanging out of dresses. No asses jiggling in too-tight pants. I think it left a classy impression on the viewers, myself included.
Ok, I hate to be a heartbreaker (but I am single today). These are the reasons why I hate the Grammy's.
They gave Britney Spears a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. And because she has producer credit on her entire album, she actually gets an award with her name on it. Drewry (the mom I babysat for) made a good point: Ironic that it's called Toxic, right? They can't understand that?
They gave U2 a Grammy over Franz or Green Day. Even U2 said that they were scared of Franz Ferdinand. They should have won. This album is not U2's best work and they got the award for being U2.
Same thing goes for Ray Charles. I love the man and his music, but please don't call me a bitch when I say this next thing. He did not deserve Record and Album of the Year. He deserved a Grammy. Yes, he did. And he got one. But not those two awards. True, all the other nominees were contemporary, but they have their merit. And they deserved it much more than Ray, who by the way has done much better work than this latest album. It made the whole night seem anti-climatic.
Ok, I'm officially done. :)
