Um, ok, this website is jinxed or something. I couldn't sign in for the last two days. The home page would be fine, but then I'd enter my username and password and hit the sign in button and.... nothing. Only once did it tell me that the server could not be found. And now, this create post page is missing some stuff. But at least I get to rant today. I'm full of thoughts.
First, Kirstin Dunst will portray Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola's newest project about the teenage Austrian cake-eater. That's not what bothers me. It's that Rip Torn will play her father-in-law. Last time I checked, he wasn't exactly French monarch material. But then again, I haven't checked in a while. But it'll come out next year and is being filmed on location at Versailles, Paris and the outlying countryside. So, I think it'll be interesting to watch considering I've been there now. :)
Second, I found a place to live. It's like a seven minute walk to work and it's a nice, big room, balcony, TV. This is weird because most Norwegian households only have one or two TV's. This is an apartment so I expected one to none. But I get one in my room. That's kinda cool. It has this huge, vaulted ceiling. I had the feeling I was very small, like I had shrunk. Which should be fun. And there's a sofa and big, club chair for lounging. Technically, I'm staying there for the next three months and then we'll see how much money YFU has. If everything's ok, then I'll stay there until the end of July. The girl who used to live there comes back in August, so I'll have to move again anyway for that last month. But I like the idea of living in an apartment. Besides, it might take a little while to find a host family for me if I didn't move in. So, for at least three months I will not be living out of my suitcase. I move in tomorrow.
Third, why do I smell? I don't mean like BO or anything, but lately I've had this strange, yet sweet scent following me around. I can only imagine that it's me, but I can't figure out what's making me smell that way. I went through the list. Ok, not a new form of body odor because you've been taking showers regularly. Check. Not your clothes because they smell fine before I put them on and smell fine afterwards. Plus, I haven't washed the ones I've worn yet so it's not the brand of detergent they use here. Check, check. Then I think, maybe it's that I haven't washed them yet. But I know what clothes smell like when they've been in a suitcase for too long. And this isn't that smell. Also, I've had all my clothes out of the suitcase long enough for them to air out. This is becoming tiring. But nobody else seems to notice, even if I ask them. So, maybe my nose is just being weird. I have been having headaches in the mornings because of the cold air, so maybe my nose is getting sick. I wouldn't put it past my nose to get sick in a new, weird way.
Lastly, why did it have to snow the day I had to walk all over Oslo to get my visa? Murphy's Law, of course. Yesterday, I took an early train to the Grønland station, where the main police station in Oslo is. That was the address the Consul in SF gave to me. So, I get there all nice and early because I know I'll have to wait and the immigration office has moved. Like two years ago! So, a half-hour later, I arrive at the already crowded immigration office and proceed to wait for two and a half hours. Ironically, I drew number 115, which is exactly the amount of money I paid for this stinking visa. So, I finally get up to the window and it takes a mere minute and forty seconds - yes, I counted - for the woman to put my visa in my passport and give me a paper to sign. Then, I had to march back to the nearest station and go to work. I finally get there and it's lunch. Thank god, because I woke up so early that I wasn't hungry when I left the house. Dumb. All this - and I wore the wrong shoes for snow, so I was constantly sliding my way along the sidewalks. Yeah, yesterday was fun. Except it actually was fun in the evening when Nina took me out for dinner and we saw my new pad.
I hope today's agenda of getting my cell phone and monthly transit pass will not need such an entry into this blog.
