Jeg snakker ikke norsk....

That means: I do not speak Norwegian. It's a very important phrase and one I had to use today coming home from work. This guy was tempting me with an unused ticket, but it was only for twenty kroner and my ticket home costs 32. So, I just turned away and bought my own ticket. But he wouldn't stop, so I just said in my terrible American accent JEG SNAKKER IKKE NORSK. I can actually speak Norwegian without too much of an accent if I really wanted to, but this guy wouldn't leave me alone. So he offered it to the guy behind me and was happy that the guy accepted. So, then the guy who took the ticket looked at me and I said: Jeg snakker norsk, men ikke med "ihm". (I speak Norwegian, but not with him.) That last word is German, but I mumbled it. The guy just grinned. I felt very sly and proud at that moment. Until I realized I was on the wrong side of the tracks. But gladly, the ticket-hound was gone and didn't get to grin at my double-backing. And I used up my time in doing that because my train was the first one to come once I did get to the right side. Ha...

So, I think that I'll learn Norwegian quickly. Speaking German helps a lot. And everyone I've met so far is just raring to help me learn. So, we'll see who is the best teacher and then I'll hang out with them all the time. Hopefully by April, I'll have the basics down. I hope Christer is a good teacher. He'd be fun to hang with. And he speaks Spanish after going to Mexico for his exchange year, so I can practice that language too if I wanted. But crap, I found out he's only eighteen, turning nineteen in June. A bit young. So, I doubt there will be any further gory details unless we become very good friends and I end up getting drunk over here and something happens. Then, I will divulge all the gore. But that's doubtful. We shall see. I'm not pursuing anything, but if he wants to pursue, then I'll just sit back and relax. I mean, why not have fun? I'm only here for six months, right?

Maybe the intern coming in the summer will be more to my liking. Scott from the States. He'll be here in June and stay until the end of August like me. So, he seems to be in school and only coming during his summer break. Hopefully he'll be older than eighteen. And cute. I would hate to look at his face everyday at work if he wasn't cute. I appreciate the aesthetics! Greek and Roman sculptures, sandy beaches of Hawaii, cute boys. They're all in the same category.
