Golden Globes

Now, I'm not going to post this prediction entry to my film blog. Mostly, because I'm way behind on updating that blog. But I think I'll wait until people win the damn awards before commenting on them. At least on a film blog.

But for my friends, I'll gladly predict for you!

let's go through the big ones:
Best Picture Drama - I would really love Brokeback Mountain to win, although all the candidates are worthy. Good Night and Good Luck is pretty plausible as a winner.

Best Actress Drama - Felicity Huffman should win. The other nominees are just people to round out the competition.

Best Actor Drama - Heath Ledger is said to have acted his heart out with his role in Brokeback Mountain. So, props to him. Even if Philip Seymour Hoffman wins. Could be either of them.

Best Picture Comedy - It's a toss-up between Walk The Line and The Squid and the Whale. Walk The Line had all sorts of buzz and kinda delivered. Squid and the Whale is a gem, prime to win all sorts of awards and nobody's seen it.

Best Actress Comedy - Reese. Hands down. Although the pic might have let audiences down, she did not and can be very proud of her work in this film.

Best Actor Comedy - Jeff Daniels makes everyone else look silly in comparison. Jeff has comic timing like no other and apparently gave Squid and the Whale a great rhythm.

Best Supporting Actress - While she's up against some big names and movies, Rachel Weisz should win for her role in The Constant Gardener. But Michelle Williams, as the heart-broken and confused wife of Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain, could win also.

Best Supporting Actor - George Clooney is the obvious choice here for Syriana, although Matt Dillon and Bob Hoskins put in some good roles as well. Matt starred in Crash, which was a beautiful and complex movie. Bob stars in Mrs. Henderson Presents, which has yet to be released on a big scale. A campy film about a striptease theater.

Best Director - Super tough category. Both Ang Lee and Peter Jackson deserve this one, but George Clooney is one of those directors who just keeps making good films when he makes them. But Woody Allen and Steven Spielberg are heavyweights as well. I bet Fernando Meirelles will win just because nobody knows about him.

Best Screenplay - Again, a great category and very worthy nominees, but Brokeback Mountain's Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana will win. And they should win. The film is based on a short story by Annie Proulx, who is phenomenal.

Best Score - I hope James Newton Howard wins for King Kong, mostly because the music played a role. It was its own character and its very hard for that to happen without it seeming too much.

Best Song - Hard to choose. But it'll be "A love that will never grow old" from Brokeback or "Travelin' thru" from Transamerica.

Now it's time to talk TV! Goodie!

Best Drama series - Grey's Anatomy should win, but Commander-in-Chief had some high ratings as well. Lost and Rome are excellent nods, but someone explain to me why Prison break is in here?!

Best Actress TV series Drama - Huge stars (Geena Davis, Kyra Sedgwick, Glenn Close, Patricia Arquette)! Polly Walker should win. She plays this nasty harpie, Atia, on the HBO series Rome and I just adore her for it.

Best Actor TV series Drama - Everyone but Wentworth Miller is capable of winning. My fav? Patrick Dempsey in Grey's Anatomy. Come on, he's hot, right? And I suppose he's a good actor. :)

Best TV series Comedy - Desperate Housewives was huge last year. But this year: Entourage! It's a sleeper hit with great writing and excellently hot stars (hi, Jeremy).

Best Actress TV series Comedy - Felicity Huffman. She won the Emmy and since all of her co-stars are nominated too (except blond, tall, what's-her-name), she'll probably win this.

Best Actor TV series Comedy - ZACH! He better win this year. Scrubs has been on fire since it started, even if nobody watches it. If anyone else wins, I will be crushed. Seriously.

Best Mini-series - I am so happy they nominated Viva Blackpool. It is a smart, edgy, totally British show, with no big names as the actors. Love it. Too bad Lackawanna Blues will win.

Best Actress in Mini-series - S. Epatha Merkerson won the Emmy for her role in Lackawanna blues, but Cynthia Nixon is close behind her.

Best Actor in a Mini-series - As much as I love Bill Nighy, especially in The Girl in the Cafe, Kenneth Branagh will take this one.

And then my favorite (enter bullshit sneeze here) categories:

Best Actress in series/mini-series/tv movie - How you can put Joanne Woodward, Sandra Oh and Candice Bergen in the same category, I'm not sure. But I'm going to let them battle this one out and wait for the winner to be called.

Best Actor in series/mini-series/tv movie - Jeremy Piven. This is his year and he plays Ari Gold perfectly. Just oozing with that Hollywood sarcastic, I-love-money-and-fame arrogance, and a dash of pushy/snarky behavior - Love it! "Let's hug it out, bitch!"
