Would you prefer to be called Ma'am or Ma?

I was officially called "Ma" this morning. As in the "Ma" that all the hip-hoppers use in reference to females. Situation:

Getting off the bus at work (SFSU) and a guy asks where the Admin building is. I say, I'm going there. He says, A'ight I'll follow you. We walk and he starts discussing his current dilemma. He needs to register for classes and has a mysterious hold on his record, so he is unable to register for spring classes. And he's tired and cranky because he just got off a graveyard shift as a security guard.

Add "ya feel me"'s and "a'ight"'s and you get the gist of the jive I was handed before drinking coffee.

I tell him where the burser's office is and he goes: Cool ma, you have a good day now, a'ight.

Now, I've never been called that before. And frankly, it was ok with me. I think because this guy said it because that's just how he talks. And all the other interjecters were just a part of his speech. It was kinda cool actually. First time I've met a guy (total stranger) that talked to me as if we had known each other for a while. And he was kinda cute. Sort of a Latin-lover crossed with b-boy hip-hop walk and style. And for a security guard, he wasn't extremely bulky. Very nice eyes too.

Anyways, I think it started off my morning on a good note. Just to have a normal conversation with someone.

P.S. Em is leaving today for home, so we said goodbye this morning. And I got her a cool gift, something she'd seen before and liked. (Calendar with tips for downloadable songs for every day of the year) Score. We opened presents last night. Mom included. And Em gave me fandango bucks, which I'll be using to their fullest extent. :)
